Hachiko was an Akita dog born in Odate, Akita in 1923. He was adopted by Professor Hidesaburo Ueno in 1924 in Shibuya. Hachiko always accompanied the professor. He went to see professor Ueno off at Shibuya station in the morning and came back to meet him there in the evening. However, when professor Ueno suddenly passed away at the university in 1925, Hachiko didn’t understand that and kept waiting for professor Ueno at Shibuya station for 10 years until his own death. My mother used to see Hachiko at Shibuya station when she was a little girl. This book is based on facts told by my mother.
